I really adore the end, especially character insights like this last bit:

"For the last 365 days, they have been playing completely different games. They probably always have been."

and this

"Sometimes, but not very often, the Doctor was glad that his old very best friend was still a best something to him, even if it was a best enemy."

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it. I do think that the two of them (at least on the shows) were always ambivalent and out of sync on how they saw each other, even as bitter enemies. Thanks for commenting!
