The piano man at the front, unbeknownst to most, is a teacher, an author and a reincarnation. That last part he'd discarded a long time ago, choosing to live out his last life doing what he loves. That love has brought him here, in this bar singing his heart out. Ghosts of past friends and relatives stand behind him, quietly cheering him on. He can hear them and keeps living the best he can.
One is his ancestor, one just a person he took care of and so many others. They're all dead, but they're the closest things he can count as friends.
