“Fuck. You can feel him panicking in response to you panicking, can’t you?” Roy said, but Jason had no idea what he was talking about. “Wait here.” Roy ran out.
Jason watched him go and tried to bring his breathing under control, but each time he thought he’d managed, something else twinged to remind him what state his body was in. He had no idea how long Roy was gone, it could have been seconds, or minutes, but when he came back he wasn’t alone.
The smell of caramel popcorn and chocolate cut through everything else and Jason felt a tug in his chest that made him want to bury himself in the scent.
“Jay, I’m so sorry.”
He opened his eyes to find Dick sitting on the edge of the bed with Roy hovering behind him. Dick looked like Jason felt, his hair was all over the place and he looked like he hadn’t slept in days. He had a bandage over his mating gland that matched the one on Jason’s neck, and the sight of it was what finally made things start to fall into place.

Red Hood watches him from the landing above, he discovers upon tilting his head up. The thought wanders through his swimming head that it isn't fair how quietly the man moves. Jason must outweigh Tim by an infuriating margin, and he hadn't heard the rusted metal groan even once.
"Hood," he says. It slurs past his fangs and a tingling mouthful of venom. The scent of human is filtering down to him in the wake of old cigarettes. Warm, mouth-watering, an edge of musk that tightens his gut.
"This is, no shit, the sixth time I've caught you out here," says Red Hood.

Jason really did manage to do the unexpected. Using the strongest drugs available, Jason tricked the world into thinking he was an alpha. The only problem with hard illicit drugs is that they tend to have negative long-term impacts and when Jason collapses in the field, the truth comes out. Omegas aren’t permitted to be superheros. As the only class that can reliably carry pups, the world is more interested in teaching them how to behave for their pack then how to fight. To bad Jason has absolutely no interest in following the mold. With little choice, Bruce enrolls him in the Justice League’s institute in hope of pairing his wild omega with a few alphas that can put him back in line.

All the sensations he feels are reduced to vague ideas. Sharp sting in his elbow. Dull thud in his ribs. The pain will come later. Joker’s touching his face. Shining a light into his eyes. God, Jason can't go out like this.
Harvey’s gonna be so fucking mad at him.
“And if you bleed out don’t you fret. Joker’s gonna take you to the pit.”
Jason makes a face and tries to pull away, but his heart isn’t in it. He’s so tired. He doesn’t have the strength. Joker’s singsong voice is louder than his heartbeat in his ears.
“And if the pit won’t bring you back, Batman’s gonna burn my bones all black.”
He closes his eyes, and nothing can open them again. He will live, or he will die, but there’s nothing he can do but sleep.
In that moment, he would rather die than stay awake a single second longer.
