In the silence Zhongli's mind was frantically searching for why this might be, asking himself if he hadn't been a good partner for Childe. Or perhaps… he wasn't good enough? Childe was a handsome young man after all, he was fun and such a supportive and loving partner. He… he could have gotten someone better than an old retired god. Was that it?
“... Am I not good enough?” In the end that was all Zhongli could utter. He hated how sad and pathetic he sounded. However the idea and possibility of Childe leaving him was just so frightful.

That is, however, until Diluc suddenly reverted back a bit. His smiles showed more often, and his shoulders seemed a bit lighter. Kaeya could have almost grown to appreciate this change. That is, until he found out it had only been caused by a series of affectionate letters exchanged between the man and an anonymous lover. Now, Kaeya was only irritated. Childe thought Lumine was his soulmate. Turns out she wasn't. After months, however, they grow close as best friends and get over any awkward tension- that's when Childe sees Zhongli, a new resident of their LA apartment building, and is totally smitten. Unlike with Lumine, Childe takes his relationship with Zhongli slowly, fluffily, and innocently, until it turns into something he couldn't live without.
