Merzost is like magic, it does not follow the same rules as the Small Science. It is unexplainable and unexpectable. There are no limits to what it is able to accomplish, but there are also no limits to what it will take in return. During the Ravkan Civil War, Sankta Alina used Merzost three times. The first use robbed her of her ability to summon the sun and gifted it to her Sol Soldiers. The second brought Malyen Oretsev back from the dead. The third killed the Darkling. After the Ravkan Civil War, Sankta Alina used Merzost one last time. The final use of Merzost woke Aleksander Morozova up.

The woman keeps her cropped head of hair steady, irritatingly placid. "I do not keep count, sir."
"You do not keep count?" The black kefta swishes in disdain as he turns his back to her. "Dismiss her."
Instead of listening to his command, however, her tempered rebuttal holds a subtle bite. "I do not keep count, General Kirigan, because there have been too many. I’ve mapped the terrain inside, days at a time, for years. So no, sir. I do not keep count of mere expeditions when time does plenty. Hopefully those measely numbers will suffice."
He turns back to face her. "Meaning, Miss..."
This time, her eyes are sharp. "Starkov. I am Privateer Alina Starkov, sir, and I am the expert required to dismantle the Fold by the order of our Tzar."
