When Dani and Gil go away on a conference, JT is left alone in the team and Malcolm works with another team. Obviously, things wouldn't go that well.

The answer is yes, but Malcolm is suddenly having trouble responding. Or keeping his eyes open. Or even holding himself up.

Plumes of dust cascade from the wooden beams overhead as a tactical team storms the house, and the part of Malcolm's brain that isn't bracing for imminent agony idly wonders if his team is up there, too, breaching the old cabin along with the SWAT team, or if they're following procedure and waiting outside for the all clear.
God, he hopes they're outside.
He doesn't want them to see this.
Doesn't want them to watch him die.

"There's still that room downstairs," Dani offers. That office was more along the lines of what they'd all been expecting. "Maybe Bright will—"
Her words are cut off by a deafening scream that seems to swell until it occupies the entire house, consuming all of the air inside. A scream she recognizes immediately and that makes her blood run cold. It's followed by a shout from Gil before Bright's cry has even died away, still echoing in Dani's ears as she and JT race down the stairs, bounding over the last few steps in their haste to get to their team.

Malcolm gets himself stabbed while on the hunt for their newest killer. He just sorta... well, fails to mention he's bleeding excessively when he finally finds Dani. He didn't mean to not tell, just, how're you supposed to mention to your team you've been stabbed?
Then, in true Malcolm Bright fashion, the hospital can't hold him back, and there's still a case to finish up-- the team's thrilled to see him (mostly). And, yeah, maybe all the teasing that comes along with checking himself out of the hospital early after nearly dying is warrented?

A new killer makes himself known; taunting and teasing the major crimes department, as well as dropping bodies left and right. Multiple nights without sleep, trying to get the threat of their newest killer off the streets in a timely manner, leaves Dani, Gil and JT a bit more irritated than usual.
Malcolm seems to be the one taking the brunt of said irritation-- and if his childhood being a serial killer's son had taught him anything, it's how to second guess his relationships when people start getting annoyed with him.
It never really did take a lot to send Malcolm into a downward spiral. It's hard to miss though, as his father's voice fills his head with snide remarks, and a sinking feeling of anxiety settles in his chest. It's too bad someone else gets to Malcolm before Malcolm can get to someone for help.

"I want this. I need this. Please, sir." Malcolm's eyes plead louder than his voice ever could, and JT wonders once again what the hell happened to send Bright down this rabbit hole of self-hatred and...guilt? JT recognizes that look from his army days. From soldiers who couldn't cope with the lives they were forced to take.
It makes him sick to see it on Bright's face now.
"You have ten minutes to get cleaned up when we get inside. Then I want you on your knees next to the bedroom door, eyes down. You'll stay there until I tell you otherwise. Don't fidget. Don't talk. Understood?"
