Immobilised by fear, she stared transfixed up at his eyes. Dark and hypnotic, with that same glint of silver—the eyes of a predator.
And she was prey.

Or: Stuck in a sticky spot of life or death, healer and local wise-woman Rey finds herself proposing a crazy deal with her rival and annoying new doctor to her village, who also happens to have a little *secret*.

Rey’s entire life has been an uphill battle, but at 23, she’s finally stable: she has a job she enjoys, and rents an apartment that she’s made feel like her own (even if the company of her dog, BB, doesn’t quite quell the loneliness as well as she’d like). When she comes across a man bleeding out in the road, she knows she needs to keep him safe—it’s basic human decency (or just basic decency, at the very least).
