Chapter 13: 12. Surprise from the future Part 2

Chapter Text

12. Surprise from the future. PT 2

Team Flash, Sara and Dawn were together in Star Labs cortex, trying to think about something that could help Dawn to get bet to her time, with the Wave Rider intact. Cisco tried to help but Dawn told him the ship got an upgrade in the future and Cisco could not understand a thing, finally giving up trying after a while. It definitely made him feel frustrated.

-         Is ok man, you tried. – Barry said as an idea crossed his mind and he felt hopeful that it would work. – I remember Kara telling me about this friend of hers that lives in her Earth… He’s from the 31st century and he had to fix their team’s ship once, I bet he can help us…

-         Well… is worth to try. – Sara said as she stared at Dawn, noticing she still had that guilty look in her eyes. She gave her a smile, nodding with her head and earned a smile back. It was still weird the fact that she was staring at hers and Barry’s future daughter, but she was starting to be cool with it. Baby steps, she thought.

Barry grabbed his cellphone, Oliver and asked for a favor, making Sara stare at him even more confused. What the hell did Oliver have to do with any of this? She asked and Cisco approached her, talking almost in a whisper.

-         Oliver and Kara are dating…

-         Oh… that’s new… - Sara said as Barry hung up.

-         Yep. – Cisco said – I can go with Oliver to Kara’s Earth while you two get to know more your daughter.

-         Thanks man.

-         Oliver and Kara? Really? – Sara asked Barry, thinking about how everyone was full of surprises, including her own fate.

-         Yes, I was shocked at first, but now I think they’re cute together…

-         Aunt Kara is the best. – Dawn said as she approached Barry and Sara – she took me to fly with her once, it was awesome…

-         Oh… that’s cool. Can you tell us anything else about your life? I mean, things that we won’t risk changing and all… - Sara said as the three of them sat on chairs next to each other.

While Sara, Barry and Dawn talked and got to know each other better, Cisco met Oliver and brought him to Earth 38. They got straight to Kara’s apartment and she jumped from excitement to see them. She greeted Cisco and hugged Oliver, giving him a kiss.

-         Get a room… - Cisco teased, turning his face to the other side.

-         Later – Oliver kissed Kara back, making Cisco stare annoyed at him.

-         I did not need to know that! Ok… Kara, can your friend from the future help us?

-         Who? Brainy? – Kara asked – What do you guys need?

-         We need help fixing a ship from the future, the Wave Rider… Long story, we have a visitor that needs to go back home… Barry’s daughter.

-         Oh… that’s… interesting. – Kara said, giving a questioning look at Oliver – I’ll talk to Brainy. I just have a meeting with the president now, but as soon as it’s over, I get Brainy and met you guys here. I’m sure he’ll help.

-         The president? – Cisco asked, in awe – Cool.

-         Nope, he’s a jerk – Oliver said and gave Kara another hug – Good luck there.

-         Thanks. I’ll see you soon – She kissed Oliver one more time and waved at Cisco before switching to her Supergirl outfit and super speeding out of the apartment.

-         I wish I could shoot that guy in the knee… - Oliver said as he sat in Kara’s couch.

-         And I wish I could say I’m surprised, but I’m not… - Cisco said as he sat in the couch, across Oliver.

An hour later, Kara came back with Brainy and Cisco opened a breach back to Star Labs, on Earth 1. Sara greeted her friends and hugged Kara.

-         Is nice to see you again. – She said as she let Kara go.

-         You too. We need to gather everyone together more… I keep telling this to Oliver…

-         I know… Is always when something’s happening… - Barry said as he greeted Kara as well.

-         Guys, this is my friend Brainy. Brainy this is Barry and Sara… - Kara pointed at them and they greeted Brainy who kept staring at them in a funny way.

-         So… that’s your daughter from the future? – Oliver said as he glanced at Dawn, that looked shyly at them.

-         Yes. She’s our daughter… - Sara said and told Dawn to come closer.

-         Interesting… - Brainy said.

-         Wow… That’s unexpected… - Oliver said – Hi I’m Oliver Queen…

-         I’m Dawn… - She said and hugged him and Kara – I’m sorry, I just saw you two yesterday and… I like you guys a lot…

-         Oh, you know us in the future… That’s amazing – Kara said, smiling.

-         You guys are like family – She smiled back.

-         So I understand you guys need help fixing a ship from the future… Lucky for you, I’m an expert! – Brainy said, looking at Dawn – we must save the future, you’re important to it…

Everyone looked curious at Brainy, including Dawn. Brainy refused to say one more word about it and especially Sara knew that there was no use on pressing the subject, he wouldn’t tell them anything else. It was better this way, she thought, knowing the consequences of knowing too much about the future. She was glad that someone could help them, since the broken Wave Rider was from the future and with different tech than the one she knew. It was really important that Dawn could bring the ship back to the future, the exact same way it was, otherwise a lot of mess would happen and it could screw Dawn’s life forever. Kara approached Sara, asking to talk to her in private while Cisco brought Brainy to see the ship.

-         Is everything ok? Sara asked, looking worried at Kara as they entered an empty room and Kara closed the door behind her.

-         Yes, it is. I just wanted to talk to you about… well, everything. I can’t help but feel you’re going through a lot right now.

-         Well, I am. I lost my father recently, and met the doppelganger of my dead sister from Earth 2, and… Now I found out I have a daughter…with Barry. It’s a lot, for sure. Not that this is a bad thing, is just a huge surprise.

-         I’m sorry for your loss by the way… And about your sister’s doppelganger, I can imagine that’s a lot. I remember it wasn’t a good surprise to know mine from Earth X was a Nazi…

-         As far as I know, she’s not a nazi, so there’s that… I’ve heard she wasn’t a good person, like… she was evil. But my dad helped her to be a better person before he died, so I’m glad for that. I think he recognized a lot of Laurel in her and tried to help her see that. Is just weird to me, but I hope someday I can get to know her better. She deserves a chance.

-         Everyone does. – Kara said – I just want you to know I’m here. I know we were never that close and all, but… We’re all friends; we should be able to count on each other…

-         Thank you, Kara, you’re really sweet – Sara smiled – I gotta tell you, when I first met you, I had a crush on you. Ollie is a lucky guy.

-         I’m flattered – Kara smiled – I’m lucky as well… I mean, I would never imagine that we would be together, if you told me this a few years ago. But that’s the funny thing about life: it takes you by surprise. I know you must be feeling lost and confused right now, but believe me, everything happens for a reason… Just give it some time and things will flow naturally. Dawn looks like a really sweet girl, so know you and Barry did a good job with her in the future. Not everyone gets to know for sure they are ok and happy in the future, so think about it in a positive way.

Sara listened to Kara, thinking about everything she was saying and she was right. She wished someone had told her when she was being held against her will by Ivo, that everything would turn out ok. Maybe things would be easier, God knows what she had been through. She knew she would need to take that memory pill and forget all about Dawn and being Barry’s wife for now, but she was sure Kara was right and everything would flow naturally. She was just really surprised because she never thought she would be the marrying and settling down type. All of that meant that at some point, something changed and she was able to have a happy life with someone she learned to love and it comforted her heart.

-         Thank you for that. And you’re right. I guess I wasn’t used to the idea of having a normal life and knowing it will happen someday, it scared me. Like I’ve said is not the fact that I end up with Barry that shocked me, is the fact that I married and had a kid.

-         None of us have a normal life Sara. Yours isn’t either. Anything could happen, and I guess knowing good things happened, at least for now, makes things less scary. What you felt was a good scare, when we are not sure if we deserve the good that is happening to us, or that will happen. And believe me, you deserve it.

Sara smiled again, hugging Kara. She didn’t know she needed those words and that support this much right now, but she did.

-         I guess I’ll talk to Dawn now… She seemed so quiet around me… I think she need me to be there for her now.

-         That’s a great idea.

Sara walked around Star Labs, looking for Dawn and found her in Cisco’s lab, looking around as if she was in a candy store.

-         Hey there. – She said as she stood in the doorway.

-         Hi… - Dawn looked at her nervously. – I was just looking around… This is a cool lab, in the future is so different…

-         Is ok… - Sara said and approached Dawn – I couldn’t help but notice you were a bit nervous as we spoke earlier… Are you ok? I mean, besides being stuck in the past, I know this is something weird…

-         Yes… I mean, I’m ok. It feels weird seeing you guys before… well, before everything.

-         Listen, I know you can’t tell me much… I know the risks of time traveling, so does Barry, better than anyone actually. I just… I keep wondering about you, and your life…

Dawn stopped walking and looking around and sat on a chair, next to Sara.

-         I just… I’ve never met dad, to be honest. He disappeared after I was born. And when I went back to the Wave Rider, I was actually hoping I could come back here and see him. I’m sorry I hid it from you guys before; I was just scared you guys would be mad…

-         Barry disappears? How?

-         In a crisis… I don’t know much about it, I mean, we have a nice relationship, but it was too painful for you to talk about it, so we never got into any details. That’s all I know. But maybe things can change… I was scared of telling him that, because I know what happened with Flashpoint, you told me once this story. I was really afraid of doing something similar… But thinking about it, maybe the future can be better, because is your future and my past…

-         I’ve said something similar to a friend once… And maybe what’s happening now stops him from disappearing. This will change things entirely for you, it might have consequences… But you’re right.

Dawn felt relief washing over her as she heard her mom’s words. She knew Sara always felt guilty about not being able to go back and save her sister and how everyone kept telling her it was wrong and how she couldn’t do anything. She was aware that just her presence in the past could affect her life, but she had to give a chance the future to be fixed, she knew it wasn’t the first time Sara went through something like this, and maybe she wouldn’t remember a thing about this day, but maybe because of that, things would happen in a different way.

Sara and Dawn kept talking a bit more before Barry came in and Dawn ran in his direction, giving Barry a big hug. Barry looked confused at Sara and she nodded at him.

-         She’s excited to see us now. – Sara said, deciding to not complicate things and keep what Dawn told her to herself. She knew it wouldn’t matter anyway, because they wouldn’t remember any of it, and she had faith things would happen differently.

Barry hugged Dawn back, starting to get used to everything that was going on.

-         Barry… Dawn… You know we need to let things happen as they should, right? I know this is probably not the time, but… I’m feeling a bit sad that we have to forget all of this… - Sara said as she stared at the ground.

-         I know. – Barry said as they both looked at Dawn. – So let’s enjoy this short time we have together. – Barry reached his hand for Sara’s and she joined them in the hug.

-         I’m still processing things, but as Kara told me, is nice to know everything will be ok someday… - Sara said as she stared at Barry.

-         Yes, it is…

Sara had hopes, she knew it was a risk, but she had high hopes about the future. And somehow she knew Dawn managed to make a difference, a huge difference in their lives.

A few hours later, Brainy and Cisco came back to let them all know that the Wave Rider was ready to sail. Sara felt like time was passing by really fast that day, it made her feel a bit dizzy, but she was glad for it. They all hugged Dawn and said their goodbyes as they walked her to the ship. Sara couldn’t help but check what her ship looked like in the future and got inside of it with Dawn. She gave Sara a small tour and Sara felt happy, seeing the progress done to it. It was 10 times more modern and the tech was even more amazing. Even Gideon was different.

-         I’m really glad I got to see you guys – Dawn said as she gave Sara one last hug – And one last thing… Don’t run away. You’ll know when…

-         Oh… Ok. – Sara said, knowing that had something to do about Barry and her.

Sara left the Wave Rider and watched along with others as they watched the ship disappearing in the sky. Sara gave a blue pill to everyone there, Oliver, Kara, Cisco, Barry, Brainy, Caitlin and asked Cisco to give Joe one.

-         As soon as you guys hit home, just take this. It will feel a bit confusing, but is ok, you’ll just forget what happened today with Dawn.

-         This will be weird… - Oliver said as he looked at Kara.

-         We can go back to my apartment and take this there. At least it won’t be that weird…

-         Great idea – Oliver said, giving her a small kiss.

Everyone said their goodbyes to Sara and Barry, leaving them as each one of them went back inside Star Labs. Sara looked at Barry, holding the pill in her hand.

-         Ready?

-         Not actually, but let’s do this… - He said as he took the pill, Sara following him right afterwards.

Sara closed her eyes to take the pill and as soon as she opened them, she saw Barry looking confused at her. She looked around, noticing they were outside Star Labs.

-         Huh… How did we end up here? – She said – I just remember talking to you earlier about my dad…

-         That’s a good question… I’m confused – He said also looking around – That’s weird…

-         Well, whatever happened I’m sure we would know by know if it was a big problem… We usually meet here to save the world – She said – Hum… I need to go back to my mom’s, is late…

-         Listen… Do you want to grab at coffee at Jitters later? It would be nice to break the pattern and actually hang out even if the world’s not ending…

Sara was taken by surprise, but felt something inside of her telling her to say yes. She was in the city after all, and Barry was right. It would be fun to hang out in normal situations, not just when the world was ending. She smiled at him.

-         Sure. I’ll meet you here later.

Sara hugged Barry and left to her mom’s, having a feeling something good was coming, she just had no idea what that was, but it was nice to feel it after such a long time.
