Surviving in the wilderness really isn't all it's cracked up to be.
After being gone for a year, John Dory returns to the Troll Tree to find it completely empty. Save for one troll: His baby brother, Branch. Thinking the trolls and the rest of his family dead, he sets off once again to the Neverglade Trail, this time, with his baby brother in tow. Fueled by fear, guilt, and the past he just can't seem to escape, he wonders if he made the right decision.
But he promised his brother he would never leave him again. So he wouldn't.
Besides, he was never known for his great decisions anyways.

Or... I needed to write more John Dory and Branch ANGST, so here's my rewrite of canon, where John Dory goes back and raises Branch out in the wilderness. Let's see how this goes, shall we?

Poppy hardly remembers her Family. She only really remembers that it was the horrible Bergens that took them from her. Even after the escape she finds herself unable to open up to the trolls trying to help her. Except maybe a particularly persistent Blue Troll who knows that she has happiness inside of her, and is determined to help her bring it out.

King Peppy is eaten before Trollstice. Princess Viva is lost to the tunnels and presumed dead. John Dory has practically already raised his four brothers-- how much harder could taking in a gray Princess Poppy be? Turns out, pretty rough when the only one she really wants to listen to is your youngest sibling.

"No Troll left behind!" King Peppy hollered down the tunnel as he threw the large ball of trolls out of the way of the shovel breaking through the ground. When the shovel was removed, King Peppy rushed off in the direction of the rest of his people. He was running so fast that he didn't see a divot in the ground. He stumbled over it and almost fell. He popped back up feeling lighter and ran off towards his people.
A small trolling that was just safely nestled in her father's hair was suddenly on the dirty ground. She let out a loud cry.
A small form rushed up to her. “We have to be quiet, Poppy. Your dad will be back soon.”
