As Izuku hopped into the kitchen, the twin bobbles of his knitted hat bounced behind his head. The scarf clumsily wrapped around his front was one of Hisashi’s, a broad strip of navy blue wool trailing along the tiles of the kitchen floor. Inko swatted the butterflies away quickly. It was one of the few things left in the house of that man.
“Izuku,” she scolded.
Izuku pouted up at her. “What's wrong, Mama?”
She asked, carefully, “Where's your own scarf? Where did you even find that?”
Izuku closed his mouth, opened it, and then closed it again.
“I took it from Dad’s case,” he said. “When he left. I took it and I kept it in my room and sometimes, when you tell me goodnight and you shut the door, I wait for you to go, Mama, so I can get it and cuddle with it, just a little, and then I put it back in my box…!”
Inko felt her heart breaking in her chest. It was a familiar feeling.
Izuku whimpered behind the folds of the scarf, “M—Mama? Am I in trouble?”
