Hermitcraft was a safe haven away from the hybrid hunters. Gem’s herd was also supposed to be a safe haven. They were tucked away, and had lived peacefully since years before Gem was born. They lived detached from the rest of the worlds, and Gem knew little of anything outside of the meadow.
Gem would be a perfect fit for hermitcraft, with her eye for design. If only she knew it existed and there could be hope for people like her.OR

Ever since Pearls moved she's lived a good life, she's got friends, she's got a well-paying job and she's got someone new that lives down the street from her that she gets to meet! Sure she's an insomniac that should be dealing with her past but that's for a different day.
Gem is between a rock and a hard place, she wants to tell Pearl the truth but just can't do it without fear of breaking the friendship they've formed. So till the day comes when she has to explain what she does, she won't explain it at all.
Martyn is new to the town and he has no idea what he's doing, one moment he is living a life he has always wanted and the next he's in a beachside town with so much left to his name. He's scared and a town of few familiar faces isn't helping calm his nerves.

When Scar dies, nobody thinks too much of it. It's a tragedy, of course, but Scar was always known as a clumsy Hermit.
When False dies, however, not even a day later, it's clear that neither death was an accident.
Returning from what was supposed to be a relaxing week away from the chaos of Hermitcraft with her brother, Gem takes up the role of the detective, being the only one too far away from Hermitcraft to have committed the murders, all while grappling with her own grief and the shock of knowing that it was a Hermit who killed one of their own.
Her friends keep dying. Hermitcraft is falling apart. She doesn't know who to trust. But as much as she wants to give up, to grieve, she has to keep going.
They're depending on her.
