Grindewald fell in 1950: the five years in which he still held sway changed the course of history. Wizarding Britain, terrified at threats to the Statute of Secrecy, decided in the late 50s to pass the Muggleborn Wizarding Appropriation Act, which took muggleborn children from their parents at the first incidence of accidental magic. Children could be fostered or adopted by wizarding families, or would live in Wizarding Institutional Houses. Some Pureblood families took things a step further and decided to foster children in case they only had one heir to act as a sibling, companion, and stand-in for punishments deemed too harsh for their own children. If the muggleborn did well, they reasoned, it meant they had earned their place in the wizarding world.
Hermione Granger is such a child, chosen at a young age to be Draco Malfoy's companion. She's an ideal muggleborn: polite, intelligent, and capable. It's not until she attends Hogwarts that someone sees her potential. She becomes the favorite of a certain professor, who sees her power for what it is.
Meanwhile, Lucius Malfoy is embroiled in Wizarding politics, influenced by his sister-in-law's mad manipulations.

Really?” Rolling her eyes at how stupid whatever magic the book had upon it was, she put it away in her school things and began sorting through ways of blocking magic. The new project had her eager and before long, she’d forgotten her boredom. Whatever the book was, it wasn’t common and it could influence the minds of those nearby.
‘I’ll get to the bottom of you.’ Hermione thought giving the book a grin.

Tom didn’t know what this future world held in store for him. There were far too many unknowns and the girl herself, while not a threat directly, could certainly hand him over to someone who was. Excitement flowed through the soul fragment at the idea of a new high stakes game. The player was a child, but a genius, perhaps even one on his level.
‘This is either going to be my greatest triumph or most humiliating defeat.’ Tom thought, alone but not forgotten as the brilliant mind of his opponent whirled under her curly brown hair.

The atmosphere at Hogwarts was cold; no one spoke. The once bussing great hall was morbid and bleak as the students got told the death of a fellow student who died in the Chamber of Secrets. Ginny Weasley was only 11 when she died, and she brought Tom Riddle back, and that was, in essence, the straw that broke the camel’s back; Hermione was kicked out of the Golden Trio even though she nearly died, but she did not care. If the boys wanted to treat her like shit, then she would find people who accepted her, only the people who accepted her were the exact people that led to the death of the youngest Weasley, but Hermione did not care; they wanted her, they accepted her, they became her family, and she became the dark princess of the Death Eaters.

Suddenly in possession of more than half of his soul, and in turn his clever mind, the dark wizard takes his campaign for ultimate power to politics, overwhelming the Ministry of Magic before long. But to keep the British Wizarding World under his heavy boot, Tom understands he must leverage his subjects through oppression and strict regulation.
He does so by abducting female children of magical aptitude from their families, raising them in a school of his making as daughters and Death Eaters—simply another way for him to ensure magical purity.
In his schemes, he plans to do away with any muggleborn wix. But he could never have anticipated the infant daughter of Helen and William Granger, and what she might mean to him.
