Summary
No longer the Winter Soldier, he is not quite Bucky Barnes either. He has only just regained his freedom after HYDRA, but now Bucky voluntarily sets it aside again to protect the girl who helped him. One of a pair of complimentary stories. Neither will include Infinity War or Endgame.
This story was begun before the nasty little virus shook up the whole world, which is why it has been on hiatus since 2020. Life got rough and then it got ugly, so it is only recently that I have been able to revisit anything I wrote during that time. I have now finished/rewritten this story and I think that it is the better for it. I will now begin posting the chapters one at a time. I am also working on finishing the Steve Rogers story that is the pair to this one. I will update when it is also done.

A nameless convict suffers in a prison camp, sentenced to years of hard labour for his crime. There, he is tormented by cruel guards and an even crueller chief overseer who seems to enjoy humiliating him.
Eventually, he escapes, and he finds himself cared for by a kind stranger who is on her own journey of grief and self-discovery.
With soldiers still hunting for the fugitive, every moment he spends in his unlikely caretaker's company is a risk to them both.
- Heavier on whump than plot. Heavier on hurt than comfort. But it's all there.
- Series of very whumpy drabbles, 100 words each.

“They’re wool, actually,” Draco said simply, moving his leg closer to Potter to let him see for himself. The Gryffindor was obviously in distress and maybe even some pain, and if taking it out on Draco right now helped him, Draco would let him. Maybe he really did have a crush on the poor bastard. “I’m sorry.”
“What?” Potter’s voice sounded less venomous now.
“That you got picked,” Draco explained, “I can’t believe they’re making you participate. And I honestly hope you don’t die.”
Potter watched him in confusion, “You don’t think I put my name in?”
Draco laughed and kept looking ahead, “You would rather eat slugs.”

If you were under eighteen, you were old enough to have known some of the worst horrors the earth could provide, but you still couldn’t get served in a damn Wetherspoons. When the Problem started, people barely took it seriously — mostly because the older generations didn’t believe in it. When a majority of them fell victims to Ghost-Touch, they started to realise just how in danger they really were. Safe havens cropped up all over Britain, and many people tried to leave the country. It paid to be selfish in a world like this, and few could be trusted.
The ones with Talent had the best chance at survival. The ones that weren’t so afraid they locked themselves inside their houses the moment the sun began to creep down towards the horizon. The ones who could make a living by finding Sources and trading them for supplies that just weren’t common anymore.
Individually, no one ever really lasted very long after dark. So it was a good job they stumbled across each other when they did.
AU in which the Problem started later and grew out of control more quickly. Merges apocalypse tropes with the Problem universe we already know.
