Crowley's about at the end of his rope. His internship is nothing more than washing all the equipment used by the interns who actually do real scientific research and his boss hates him. His friends either urge him to keep at it or encourage him to drink and forget. Neither of which are particularly helpful.
Then, one night, he finds something on the beach.

Crowley woke up to the feeling of warm hands on his arm. Normally, he would panic, because last time he checked, he lives alone in a cottage by the sea. But the reality sunk in, confirming that he wasn’t dreaming at all. That the events of yesterday truly happened.
There’s a mermaid in his bed. Well, a mermaid that is currently human, but that just sounds crazier.

Crowley stared at him, yellow eyes narrowing. “You’ll have to excuse me for not trusting you. Never encountered your kind before. I suggest you get out of here because this much blood in the water is going to attract sharks.”
He twisted around, attempting once again to try to dive into the depths, but without his tail free that was proving impossible. He struggled even harder upon seeing his so-called rescuer pull a knife out of his belt.
“Not without you,” the land-dweller replied. “Hold still, please. These nets are meant to dig into skin the more one moves.”
“If you're going to kill me, please make it quick. Long, painful discorporations seem like a bad way to go.”
Prince Crowley is investigating the damage fishing vessels are doing to crops and homes in his father's underwater kingdom. Prince Aziraphale is supposed to be learning to become a scribe. Their worlds are about to collide, putting Crowley's life in danger and revealing that the land-dwelling angels and ocean-dwelling merdemons just might not be that different after all.

For Aziraphale, life ought to be simple. Abide by the rules of the shoal, protect their hidden realm from curious humans, patrol the eastern gates and take care of any threats. And when the time comes, join the battle against humanity.
The trouble is that Aziraphale rather likes human things, which is quite a problem for a merman. A fatal one if the shoal leader ever finds out. But as long as he stays out of sight of the humans and the shoal never finds out, everything will be fine.

While sunning himself after hunting prey, Crowley finds something that looks like a human contraption, a compas, but wrapped in what can only be the tentacle of a jelly. A very large jelly at that. Perhaps even another type of merfolk?
Intrigued, he decides to return the compass to its owner or at least try, given the depths of the ocean.
When he does meet the owner, he's rather overwhelmed, in more ways than one. -

Aziraphale is a merman who likes human things a little too much. Crowley is a human who just wants to leave the awful place he’s at. A chance meeting, a surprising rescue, lead to more than the two of them ever imagined. Would they truly risk their own souls to be with each other? And, more importantly, will they meet the necessary requirements on time to keep them?

It's 1689 and Crowley is enjoying his brief stint into the world of piracy. It has everything a demon could want. Plundering, murdering, raiding.... and he barely had to lift a finger to corrupt or tempt the humans around him.
But when the crew stumble across the opportunity to capture and incapacitate a creature thought too dangerous to contain, suddenly the demon is forced to reevaluate everything he thought he believed in.
