Cas looked up at him weakly from the awkward angle, his eyes periodically fluttering shut without him meaning to. The overwhelming exhaustion was catching up to him quickly causing him to feel quite delirious. He could feel himself fading fast as Dean carried him quickly across the yard towards the Impala. He frowned sadly as he stared up at the side of Dean’s face that was beautifully lit by the moonlight.
“I hate you.” Cas heard himself rasp painfully into Dean’s ear as he slowly lost consciousness.
He hadn’t meant to say it out loud. He knew that he didn’t really mean it at all. He knew he felt quite the opposite actually. He knew that it was not Dean himself that he hated. It was the way Dean made him feel. It was all of his own complicated and strong human emotions that he still hadn’t gotten a grip on. It was the power that this man yielded over his heart. That’s what he hated.

It’s something about the way the man’s oddly peculiar tastes and dialect linger in House’s mind. How different from the boring and usual mundane tasks, it’s too surreal to be fake.

Castiel is an angel, so breathing is optional for him, but in this moment he had to make a conscious effort to keep his breath even. The words hit painfully against something buried deep inside of him. A sore spot, he thought humans call it. He carefully angled his face away and looked out the window to hide the flash of hurt that he couldn’t keep from his face, from the rest of the table.

“I’m sorry.”
It was a plea for everything to turn out fine, but he was sure he wouldn’t be so lucky.
Castiel’s body felt like a weight had been lifted only to be replaced with a heavier one. Like he was drowning and got to the surface, catching one last breath before sinking for good.
He couldn't shake this feeling of remorse, and he knew it would never leave him. He just couldn’t stop thinking how he could have prevented all of it had he been less selfish.
“I’m sorry,” he’d said, as if it explained everything.
“I tried.”
As if having done so could take the other’s pain away.
“I don’t.”
And when Castiel walks away, he doesn’t dare to look back.
He just kept walking, putting more and more distance between him and the one that had loved him up until that moment.
And even if leaving meant he left yet another piece of himself behind so be it, he wouldn’t miss it anyway. He was so far from being whole that it didn’t matter anymore.
