Dean Winchester is an omega who was abandoned by his mother at a young age, being left behind with his bitter and abusive father. He’s alone, scared, and developmentally behind, childlike and not even able to read when he’s thrown out on his ass as a teenager. By the time he’s 27 he’s no better off and more damaged than ever, homeless and working on the street. He tries to be happy, childlike mind clinging to hope, but he’s tired. He waits for an angel.
Castiel is an alpha who’s recently experienced a fall from grace after falling into a psychotic episode at work and attacking a man while on duty. He’s lost his job and now works nights at a run down gas station, living paycheck to paycheck and preparing to go before the board to plea his case for why his credentials shouldn’t be taken away. He’s going to get his life back together, there’s only one problem. Castiel believes he’s God-like, a twisted angel of justice, and takes that belief to violent extremes.

Cas looked up at him weakly from the awkward angle, his eyes periodically fluttering shut without him meaning to. The overwhelming exhaustion was catching up to him quickly causing him to feel quite delirious. He could feel himself fading fast as Dean carried him quickly across the yard towards the Impala. He frowned sadly as he stared up at the side of Dean’s face that was beautifully lit by the moonlight.
“I hate you.” Cas heard himself rasp painfully into Dean’s ear as he slowly lost consciousness.
He hadn’t meant to say it out loud. He knew that he didn’t really mean it at all. He knew he felt quite the opposite actually. He knew that it was not Dean himself that he hated. It was the way Dean made him feel. It was all of his own complicated and strong human emotions that he still hadn’t gotten a grip on. It was the power that this man yielded over his heart. That’s what he hated.

Dean Winchesters attempts suicide on a dirty motel bathtub, ending brain dead on a hospital. A trickster promises John and Sam that he will save him for “free”, as long as they both get through watching a series of Dean´s memories, good and bad. The twist is that they will feel everything Dean did at the time and they can stop it at any time, but then Dean will die. They both accept thinking it cant be that bad. Spoiler: it is worse.

Five, six, seven, and now it's full-on screaming. Dean really hopes there’s no one in the adjoining rooms, otherwise they’re going to be getting a visit from the cops soon. He makes it to ten stitches pulled before Sam’s sudden silence snaps him out of his reverie. It’s a mercy to the kid, honestly, to pass out, but then Dean looks up and sees Sam’s eyes roll all the way back in his head, and his heart nearly stops.
