Germany has wished for unification for his entire life, and he cannot help but stand with the German revolutionaries who wish the same, even if it means going against his father, Prussia. But despite unification being closer than it has ever been, achieving it will not prove to be so simple.
For Austria-Hungary, the choice seems easy enough at first—he wants Hungary to be equal within the empire, and so do the Hungarian revolutionaries. Then Austria and Hungary—his parents—end up at war against each other and he no longer knows where to stand. Maybe he never has.
And whether it is for better or worse, they will all be left to wonder if the established order can ever be changed.

Aziraphale goes to True Directions, a facility dedicated to curing same-sex attraction and gender confusion. His goal is clear, get through the process as quickly as possible so he can return to his normal life and be left alone with his favourite books once more.
However, things are not so easy. Aziraphale quickly strikes up a friendship with Anthony J. Crowley, another soldier at True Directions who seems to make every attempt to question, challenge, and fight against the process. Aziraphale wants to help his friend get through the process, by showing him the light of God. But what complicates things is that somewhere along the way, he realises that he may actually, really badly, incorrigibly, heart stoppingly, fancy Crowley.
This work inspired by But I'm a Cheerleader and The Miseducation of Cameron Post. There are some darker themes within this story, including internalised homophobia, transphobia, misgendering, deadnaming, unethical therapeutic practices, physical abuse, institutional abuse, religious abuse and more. Aziraphale also develops a form of contamination and religious OCD, which is described in detail in some chapters. Please read the tags before reading further. -

He collected a few more purses as he moved through the crowd, tucking them under his robe as the bard sang song after song and the patrons grew drunker and drunker. It was as he was grabbing his last bag of the night that he happened to have up and see the bard staring directly at him. He was still mid chorus, the crowd singing rambunctiously along with him, but there was a gleam in his eyes that told Grian that he knew exactly what he was doing.
Grian met his gaze defiantly, pocketing the pouch while not breaking eye contact. He wasn't scared of some random bard in a tavern, and he wasn't going to show any fear. So he caught him stealing, what was he going to do about it? End his song early and call him out? He still hadn’t gotten paid more than a few small coins for his songs. The grin on the bard’s face grew ever so slightly as they locked eyes, and there was a newly animated air to his movements as he pushed forward into the next verse of his song.
