Bucky glared at the dismantled wall, trying to hide his anguish. She did too, glaring at the growing wine stain on her dress. tears fell onto her lap, darkening the periwinkle material. She felt a slight pressure from Barnes's hand, and they sat like that for a long time, neither staring at each other, not speaking, but all words were spoken as Peggy placed her pale, rough hands, over tan, calloused ones.

Summary
Steve Rogers travels back in time to be with the love of his life, Peggy Carter. He thinks he is hanging up the shield and retiring, but the past is not yet finished with Steve Rogers. He must make allies, old and new in order to protect his future from the threats of the past.
This fic incorperates elements from the MCU and the comics to create the story of the Invaders, the Avengers before the Avengers. It is loosely based of of the Invader's Marvel Comics set during WW2. This is a post-war interpretation of the team, with some roster changes to better fit the MCU.

Jaqueline Barnes was the best sniper Peggy Carter had ever met. Not to mention her attention to detail was spot on, challenging even Steve's strategic mind at times.
Then it all went wrong - Steve had fallen, slipping away from Jackie's hands on that train, only to be heard about through the few captives they had taken and interrogated.
She had to get Steve back, no matter what it took.
She was going to recapture Captain HYDRA and pull him back from evil.

"Angie, are you alright?" Peggy listened for any potential threats as she waited for her response. Eerily enough, there seemed to be no one in the house except for them two. If there was anyone else with them right now, they were certainly skilled enough to be undetectable.
"I’m okay!" The pitch of Angie’s voice was all over the place. "Where are you? Come—"
"—’m right here." She immediately surveyed the space before she even stepped onto the doorway. Much to her confusion, the only thing out of place was the shards of glass on the floor and the woven basket on the table. "What happened?"
Angie’s frantic eyes darted back to the basket before meeting hers. Without removing her hand over her heart, she responded, "Some heartless idiot left a babe at the door."

He went back to save his friend, James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes. But to do that Steve has to save some other people as well.
