His brain tells him to get back up. To run. To get away. That the next attack will happen in just a second. That someone will come, and they’ll shoot a bullet through his head. That’s it. End of Peter Parker. But his body doesn’t respond to anything. He can barely lift his arms, because it feels like an elephant is sitting on his chest.
Peter knows this is the end. Knows nobody will get to him in time… he’ll bleed out, in the desert sand. Alone.
His eyes feel heavy and slowly he closes them. Tries to breathe, knowing he can’t. Tries to forget the pain, but he can’t do that either. It digs through his chest, not like a bullet, no… It’s sharp and hard. There’s not one, there are a million. A million little things in his chest. But he can’t see them.
And soon, he can’t see anything, but darkness…

“What’s happening?” Mr. Stark asked, immediately worried. Other voices chorused after, a blend of professional concern.

“I-“ Peter stops himself. Sam watches carefully as Peter takes a deep breath, giving the kid space to center himself, to calm himself. “I… I didn’t mean to,” Peter stammers out, eyes still glued to the floor, “I just, but then… I-“Then the first sob echoes from him, and tears stream down his cheeks, leaving wet trails behind. “Please, I… don’t tell dad… don’t tell Tony I-“
“Hey, hey” Sam snaps his fingers in front of Peter’s face, attempting to get him to look up at him. Meeting him at Peter’s level. “You did nothing wrong, okay? You’re okay. No one blames you for this, it’s okay. You are safe here. Alright?”

Stuck in Gotham with no money, legal identity, no way home(ha ha see what i did there), and struggling to deal with all the pent up trauma he has been harboring, Peter must find new footing in a universe completely different to his.

Summary
Peter was exploring an old, abandoned hydra base with the avengers. More specifically, Iron man, black Widow and Hawkeye . While it was supposed to be abandoned, they could never be too safe with bases like these. Sometimes other ‘bad guys’ moved in, sometimes there were still old traps around, sometimes the structure of the building was just unsafe. So they always went in full gear. Just in case.
Which is why none of them were all that surprised when one of them activated a trap. Peter, personally, was also not very surprised that Tony and Hawkeye were the ones that got caught in it. Peter had jumped backwards into a wall when the trap activated- and he thought he’d hit something, but nothing happened

Peter had hurt himself as long as he had known what pain was.
He was seven when his parents died, and as he wept in bed that night, he can remember scratching his arms until the pain was all he could think about.
He was eleven when he thought he had made a best friend at the library. He remembers Skip making him act out things he really didn't want to, but eager to please, he did anyway - even if it meant at night he would take a small knife from the kitchen and carve just until he bled and he could feel the sweet sting. It helped him forget.
He was thirteen when he watched Ben Parker bleed out on the dirty streets of New York, and despite his uncle's best efforts to help him stop, he sliced deep into his flesh until he passed out from exhaustion.
Peter hasn't stopped since then.
