Jim has a habit of balancing the weight of the world on his shoulders...
But this time, he's doing it alone. On the way back to the future, Jim is separated from his friends and thrown into an alternate timeline that is not his own. Given a second chance at saving the world, Jim has to make a choice: he could sit back and watch the future play put like its supposed to, ignoring all the death and destruction wrought by Gunmar and Morgana-
Or he could intercept the amulet from his past self so he could live a normal life with normal human problems and stop all the bad things from happening in the future.

Raz didn't realize how much he missed forests until he stepped through the portal and out into the forests of Arcadia. This time he won't let Gunmar win. This time the trollhunter won't fall prey to the Decimar Blade. Raz will make sure, that this timeline's Jim remains Jim and never becomes Raz.
Or: Raz escapes Gunmar's control by traveling across timelines and lands in the original one, messing stuff up. Follow along as Raz meets friends and family he hasn't seen in so long as he searches for Merlin. Maybe he'll even find himself.
Edit: I was going to do the original timeline setting after the movie. But I think it'll fit better without worrying about the arcane order. They might still show up though. -

Mara's life is a repeated cycle of schoolwork, homework and intern-work. And it makes sense except for the parts where she can't explain the cracks running down her arms, the sketch in her locker and the nagging feeling that life would be easier for her brother if she doesn't exist.
Jim's life involves a careful balance of cooking, taking care of her mom, and arguing with his sister on whether he should be doing those things. While they argue, he can't help but feel that she is right, that his life is meant to go elsewhere.
When Jim picks up a mysterious object, the Lake siblings are dropped into a world that explains everything wrong with them, and puts them into a conflict that they both slide into so seamlessly. A world where gem cities thrive under a drought-ridden canal, obnoxious teachers turn into monsters, and crazy men believe that you're a savior destined to defeat evil and die in increasingly painful ways.
But that's nonsense. Jim isn't a trollhunter, trolls aren't real, and Mara isn't a witch.
Maybe if they keep repeating it themselves it'll finally be true.

12th Century Camelot AU, Forbidden Romance.
Jim doesn't remember much about his childhood, but he knows that he used to be human, that his name is Jim, and that the people who turned him into this monster were not his friends. He remembers the experiments, waking up in a body not of his own, and escaping. He remembers finding a father in a troll named Blinky, and a safe haven in Dwoza Trollmarket, even if he received stink-eyes from its inhabitants.
Seven years later, Jim and Blinky have a plan to break into King Arthur's castle and save Callista, a troll Jim considers a sister, from her life in Camelot's dungeon. With the hopes of the plan going off perfectly, Jim scales the castle. Though, of course, something goes wrong. Jim, from the moment he enters the castle, is spotted by a burnt sienna beauty who happens to be the handmaiden of Morgana Le Fay. Her name is Claire Casperan, and she also just happens to be the very girl that would change Jim's life.
